Increase your self-esteem
I was not surprised when I read a recent research study written about in of all places the L.A. Times that suggests having a cosmetic facial surgery does not increase self-esteem. This false assumption was also examined in 1960 by Maxwell Maltz, MD, a plastic surgeon who stumbled on the same phenomenon. While he said changing or correcting a ‘facial defect’ can be a real boost to the physical appearance, many of his patients did not experience a concomitant boost in their self-esteem. This set him on a journey to find out why and what does help to increase your self-esteem.
Maltz found and I agree that the way to change increase your self-esteem, is to boost your self-image… that is to become acceptable and more lovable to you. What is your self-image? It is as Dr. Maltz eloquently puts it the ‘face of the personality’, the mental picture or image we have or ourselves.

While it is possible to do this, perhaps the only way you increase your self-esteem is, as with anything else you want to create in your life, by taking actions, ‘acting as if’ which then builds the crucial new stored memories of you as you would like to be.
To increase your self-esteem you would also have to understand what you think are your weaknesses, what’s standing in your way, and put together a plan to improve them, little by little. If for example, you are afraid to do something, you would try to do it by taking manageable action steps.
For example if you are shy and find yourself introverted at social gatherings, the only way to increase your image of yourself is to bite the bullet and practice, acting as if you are confident. You go up to people and naturally join in a conversation. It really gets easier the more you do it. Taking a course talking in front of groups is also an excellent way to do this.
This I believe is also partly at the root of why so many people who lose weight only regain it. In fact research shows a whopping 95% of people who lose weight regain it within a month. This is a problem that I have devoted many years to helping people solve by developing the Nirvana Diet, and is complex due to the addictive nature of certain foods, but definitely one that can be overcome. I would say a key to successfully losing weight also includes learning how to improve your self-image which is the key to your self-esteem.
Active Visualizations are a fantastic way to increase self-esteem by changing the inner image. Active visualization is the term I have coined to mean making pictures or images in your mind as a process you do to accomplish a goal or the end result. They are done in a relaxed state and when used regularly in the right way are amazing tools to help people achieve and make the change they want as well as create the outcomes they desire. This is also of course what I teach in my CM Coaching sessions.

The key to a successful Active Visualization is to really want what you want, clear the opposition or resistance you may have inside, and believe that what you want is possible. I cannot stress how important it is to learn how to do Active Visualizations if you want to learn how to increase self-esteem.
Active Visualizations go hand in hand with acting as if and make taking actions to get the results you want easier. After all what is self-image anyway? It is the mental picture you have stored inside you about how you see you.
What you will find is that changing that self-image will help you to achieve many of the wishes you have… that is how you turn your dreams into reality.
